The Birth of Basha
The Dawn of a New Donair
In the beginning,,,
When Kass Fattah came to Canada at the age of 19 from his native Lebanon, the year was 1991. Brian Mulroney was Prime Minister of Canada and the Stanley Cup was being fought over by the Pittsburg Penguins and the Minnesota North Stars. Young Kass had been working in the food industry since he was twelve and wanted to bring the culinary insights he'd learned at such a tender age to his newly adopted country.
Customer Service; The Cornerstone of Kass' Commitment to Culinary Quality
Realizing how vital superlative customer service is in the food trade, Kass became a trainer for Brinker International for over 20 years. The company, who owns such iconic restaurants as Chili's, recognized Kass' commitment to creating a top shelf dining experience. Relying on his vast expertise and diligence, Brinker opened 25 new restaurants world-wide under Kass' direct guidance.
The Store that Started it All
Kass borrowed from his impressive background in the food trade to open his very first Basha donair shop in November of 2001 at the world famous West Edmonton Mall. It was the initial step in his vision to create a chain of stylish restaurants that would combine excellent Mediterranean foods with unique spices and herbs designed expressly for Kass' menu. In the Turkish language, where the word 'donair' originates, Basha means "King" and for Kass, that is the title he wants his customers to feel they wear when they step into one of his shops.
Spreading the Basha Word
The success of the West Edmonton Mall location told Kass he had a hit on his hands and by November 2009, had opened up his second restaurant in Leduc. It took Kass just four more years to open up two more restaurants; one in Nisku and another in the Blue Quill community in south Edmonton. With an attractive franchise program in place, Kass anticipates many more Basha locations to be opening in years to come.
The Business Model of Basha Mediterranean
Kass has built his business model on three simple beliefs;
1. Exceptional, attentive customer service must always be part of the recipe,
2. Food must be plentiful and filled with fresh, healthy ingredients and unique flavours,
3. Basha Restaurants are an essential part of their communities and have an obligation to support local initiatives, non-profit groups and sports teams in their towns.
With these three rules, Kass has created a winning combination in the field of fast fine dining. Come in today and let Basha treat you like a king!
